Due to some internal changes and promotions, we are looking for an Assistant Winemaker to join our established, Award-Winning Winemaking team.  This position is based in the Awatere Valley at our stunning Seaview Winery location. 

Key tasks will include: 

  • Assist with domestic bottling when required, including attending taste offs
  • Assist with administration associated with offshore wine dispatch (wine in flexi) under the guidance      of the Production Winemaker
  • Monitor SO2s and tank temperatures. Make adds and adjustments as required and as instructed
  • Generate and complete work orders and update the daily work schedule as directed
  • Adhere to winemaking specifications, both internal and those requested by customers
  • Assist the winemaking team to compliantly produce and dispatch wine in accordance with the New Zealand      Winegrowers International Winemaking Practices Guide
  • Participate in all wine grading, blending and balancing trials
  • Support customer relationships through providing requested information, spec sheets, declarations etc
  • Assist the winemaking team maintain up to date SOPs and systems and processes
  • Assist with cellar team SOPs and by ensuring they are up to date with best practice processes
  • Maintain oak barrels by ensuring empty barrels are preserved as per SOP and maintaining records in Vintrace

What we are looking for:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Winemaking (preferable)
  • Cellar and harvest experience - preferably in a supervisory role
  • A strong understanding of winemaking processes, including an understanding of winemaking legislation 
  • Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail
  • Team player 
  • Takes personal responsibility. 
  • Takes ownership and pride in work tasks. 
  • A passion for wine and the New Zealand wine industry
